Born: October 13, 1942 in Portland, Oregon
Married: August 26, 1961 in Caldwell, Idaho to Theodore Richard Montgomery
Children: Matthew Richard Montgomery, b. December 7, 1971 in Caldwell, Idaho
Megan Lynne Montgomery, b. April 4, 1974 in Caldwell, Idaho
Mom was born in Portland, Oregon, the first child of Joe and Velma Hoffmann. They were living in Portland while Grandpa worked in the shipyards as a welder during World War II.
The Hoffmann family moved to a farm east of Caldwell, Idaho, in March 1943. Uncle Jay was born here in May 1944. In 1947 the family bought a house on Canyon Hill in Caldwell, where Grandma continued to live until a few months ago. Grandpa moved into the new house on the day Aunt Paula was born, February 17, 1947. Aunt Carla was born in April 1954.
In the summer of 1959, while in high school, Mom and Dad (who had been in the same first grade class) began dating. That summer, while Mom visited relatives in Fairbury, Illinois, Dad wrote her a letter every
day while she was in Illinois--probably 30 of them! After high school graduation and a semester of college, Mom went to business school from the end of January-early August 1961. Mom and Dad were married August 26.
Mom worked as a secretary for a lawyer from the fall of 1961 to January of ‘63, then worked for the Idaho Motor Club until April 1966 when Dad was in the army. Mom didn't work again (except for raising us!) until she began doing the shop books for Hoffman Sheet Metal after Grandpa died, and then when she became a half-time teacher's aide at Lincoln Elementary in Caldwell while I was in high school.
